OUR SUNDAY MORNING BIBLE SCHEDULE will begin on January 8th with the following classes…
Youth Culture 101—Using Walt Mueller's Youth Culture 101, Dr. James Dobson, and other resources, the class will explore:
¨ Our role as Christian parents. ¨ Media today and the digital revolution; marketing and materialism. ¨ Peer pressure. ¨ Today's sexualized culture. ¨ Escape through depression, suicide, drugs and alcohol.
While intended to be informational and not a "parenting" class, the informal format is designed to encourage discussion. Youth Culture 101 will be led by John Martin and will meet in Room 103 (Miss Freed’s classroom) on the middle level of the school.
Philippians: Joy in Christ—In this epistle, Paul characterizes the Christian life in this way: joy no matter what the circumstances; an eagerness to suffer for Christ; humility that follows Christ in putting others first; trust in Christ alone for righteousness. This six week study will be taught by pastors Brunow and Klausmeier and will be held in the church sanctuary.
Lutheran Christianity—This course introduces the basic teachings of Christianity from a Lutheran perspective. Questions are encouraged in this class and no previous Bible study experience is necessary. All are welcome to attend! Pastor Eggold and Don Hille will lead Lutheran Christianity in Brandt Hall.
Ruth—The book of Ruth is a lovely reflection of God’s love in Christ reflected in the lives of true believers, whose faith sustained them and became their blessing. Jim Croxton will lead this class which will meet in the Activities Center (located above the cafeteria).
Father Abraham Had Many Sons—Jim and Anne Smith will lead this continuing class for young couples using Old Testament families to illustrate desirable and undesirable family models. This class will meet in Room 4 (Mrs. Hoyer’s classroom) on the lower level of the school.
“Take Six” This class is designed especially for members who joined our church family in 2011. This six-week class will help members:
¨ Learn who we are. ¨ Find your way around our campus ¨ Understand the big picture. ¨ Discover what’s happening in the church. ¨ Examine ways we care for our community. ¨ Find your place in the Emmanuel family.
“Take Six” will be led by Connections Coordinator, Michele Kausch and Director of Administration and Congregational Care, Lana Hille, and will meet in Room 3 (Miss Bennett’s classroom) located on the lower level of the school.
THE FOLLOWING BIBLE CLASSES will meet during the week…
MONDAY MORNINGS at 6:30: Women’s Bible Study— This is a great small group study for women who are on their way to work or just like to start the week off in the Word. This class will be studying Ezekiel. Instructor: Mrs. Lana Hille—Location: Brandt Hall Mtg. Room
MONDAY EVENINGS at 5:30: First Corinthians Using the LifeLight series from Concordia Publishing House, Pastor Eggold will lead a detailed study of this book through which Paul instructs the Corinthian church in a host of issues which still face the Church today. This in-depth class is open to all and starts on Monday, January 9th. Instructor: Pastor Thomas Eggold—Location: Brandt Hall Mtg. Room
TUESDAY AFTERNOON at 1:00: “James: The First Gospel”—This class will meet every Tuesday afternoon except on the 3rd Tuesday of each month when Senior Lunch Bunch meets. Instructor: Pastor Manfred Fremder—Location: Brandt Hall Meeting Room
TUESDAY EVENINGS at 6:30: Family Confirmation—In this special class, 8th graders and their parents will gather on Tuesday evenings from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. in the Activities Center to study the basics of the Christian faith as explained in Luther’s Small Catechism. Instructor: Pastor Thomas Eggold Location: Activities Center
TUESDAY EVENINGS at 5:30: “Women of the Bible—This class is a continuing study of the “Women of the Bible” and meets on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of each month from 5:30—7:30 p.m. Contact Judy Coles at coles567@hotmail.com or by phone at 426-0152 for more information. WEDNESDAY MORNINGS at 6:30: Men’s Bible Study—This group meets each week to study and discuss the readings to be used in worship the following Sunday. This study on is held on Wednesdays from 6:30-7:30 a.m. in the Brandt Hall Meeting Room. Instructor: Pastor Thomas Eggold—Location: Brandt Hall Meeting Room
WEDNESDAY MORNINGS at 8:30: Women’s Bible Study—This women’s group will meet in Brandt Hall at 8:30 a.m. and continue their study of the Minor Prophets of the Old Testament, considering some of the most beautiful promises given to us in God’s Word. Instructor: Lana Hille—Location: Brandt Hall Meeting Room WEDNESDAY MORNINGS at 10:00: Pastor’s Study—This group meets on Wednesdays from 10:00-11:00 a.m. in the Brandt Hall Meeting Room to talk an in-depth look at the Scripture readings featured in the coming Sunday’s worship services. Instructor: Pastor Thomas Eggold—Location: Brandt Hall Meeting Room
FIRST AND THIRD WEDNESDAYS OF EACH MONTH: A Mother’s Bible Study—This class meets in the Conference Room at 9:00 a.m. while the children are cared for in the Activities Center next door. Come and experience the amazing blessings found in the Book of Proverbs. Instructor: Erin Clark & Bridget Eggold—Location: Conference Room
WEDNESDAYS at 12:00 Noon: “66 Love Letters”—This class is a continuing study for any woman who wants to learn from and support each other as they work their way through the Bible from cover to cover, using the book 66 Love Letters by Dr. Larry Crabb. This class meets 12 noon-1p.m. every Wednesday in the school conference room beginning October 5th. Feel free to bring a sack lunch. EMMANUEL’S MINISTRY PLAN 2011-2012 IS NOW AVAILABLE ON LINE at Emmanuel’s website www.emmanuellutheran.org under Ministries. The booklet is also available at the entrances into the church, the narthex, Brandt Hall and the Welcome Center. This Ministry Plan is a detailed summary of our plans for carrying out God’s work at Emmanuel during the 2011-2012 ministry season.

CUP OF KINDNESS boxes can be found near all the entrances to the sanctuary. The money collected is added to monies given by The Lutheran Foundation through Lutheran Social Services and given to families who have crisis needs. Several of our own families have benefited from this fund. Please share your quarters or dollars as you are able.
PARKING AT WASHINGTON ELEMENTARY—Due to growing attendance in our worship services, parking will be available for all our weekend worship services at Washington Elementary school in the parking lot on Rockhill and Jefferson, next to the playground. If you are able, please consider using this parking option so that those who have a need to park next to church are able to do so. We thank Washington Elementary School for graciously opening their campus to us.

4TH ANNUAL SWEETHEART DINNER DANCE—Emmanuel’s Senior High Youth would like to invite you to their 4th annual Sweetheart Dinner Dance on Saturday, February 11th from 6-9 p.m. in the gymnasium. It is sure to be a night of fabulous food, fellowship, and dancing. Even if you are not a dancer, it is a great opportunity to enjoy a night out with your Valentine and get to know the youth of Emmanuel. Proceeds from this event will help offset costs of their summer servant event to Logan, West Virginia. Tickets may be purchased in the Welcome Center between worship services on Sundays, after worship on Saturday evenings, or in the church office throughout the week. Cost is $30 per couple which includes dinner, childcare (children’s meals included), and entertainment.
SENIOR LUNCH BUNCH—Our January LB will be held on Tuesday, January 17th. Our guests for the day will be Kathy Morse and Sharon Dorsen from the Fort Wayne Parks and Rec. They will be bringing us information about the wonderful activities at the Community Center as well as travel plans coming up. Fellowship time begins at 11:00 am with lunch following at 12:00 noon. Cost for the meal is $7.00 and the deadline for your reservation is Wednesday, January 11th. This is an opportunity for anyone in the congregation 50 years and older to join us for a wonderful lunch...with dessert... and a great time with fellow members...consider joining us if you have not come before.

Senior Youth—9th, 10th, 11th and 12th Graders
SNA—We will meet on Sundays, January 8th, 15th, 22nd, and 29th from 6:00-8:00 p.m. in the Activities Center.
Rainbow Youth—4th, 5th and 6th Graders
Bowling—Rainbow Youth will go bowling at Lakeside Bowling Alley (located next to Kmart) on Sunday, January 8th. Please meet in the Welcome Center at 1:00 pm. and bring $5 for shoes and bowling. There is food available at the lanes if you want to bring money along for that as well. We’ll return to church at 4:00 pm. Any questions, call Michele Anderson at 432-2538.
GIRL’S NIGHT OUT—Ladies, are you tired of dieting, bouncing back and forth from this diet to that diet, seeing success and then backsliding?? Or are you interested in taking the best care of your body and receiving encouragement on how to do that?? On Friday, January 6th we will have Meghann (Richey) Whetstone presenting information on “real food eating” with a presentation on “Lifestyle Eating”. Meghann is a Registered Dietician working with Dr. Gladd, MD. She has a wealth of information to share with us and encouragement on how we can “eat to live” rather than “live to eat”. You can register for this informative evening by signing up in the church narthex or the Welcome Center. The evening will begin at 6:30 pm and conclude with some great healthy snacks! Consider joining us.
CHARIS HOUSE—WOMEN’S RETREAT—We would like to invite the congregation to be part of one of our service projects for the Women's Retreat in February. We will be collecting items needed at Charis House, a Fort Wayne shelter for Women and Children experiencing a homeless crisis. All Charis House programs are free of charge and attend to the whole person, meeting spiritual, emotional, physical and educational needs. We feel it is an honor to have this opportunity to reach out to other sisters experiencing a time of difficulty. The following is a list of items we will be collecting...you can drop the items off anytime in the boxes located in the church narthex or the Center.

The Women's Retreat Team
WOMEN’S RETREAT—Please make plans to attend the 2012 Women's Retreat at the "Farmstead Inn" in Shipshewana, IN. The retreat begins on Friday evening, February 17th and draws to a conclusion with worship on Sunday morning. You won't want to miss this weekend of spiritual growth, fellowship, laughter and fun with other women of Emmanuel Lutheran Church. Cost runs between $110 - $235; depending on your rooming choice. This price includes two nights stay, breakfast buffet both days, Saturday evening banquet, snacks and materials. Registration forms are available in the church narthex or the Welcome Center. Our presenter this year is Connie Denninger. Connie is from Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Springfield, VA. Connie is a Pastor's wife and mom to 3 adult daughters who are all Lutheran School teachers. Connie has taught school from preschool to high school. She loves to see the ways a creative God has made creative people. Connie has been in parish ministry for almost 30 years. In 2012 she will graduate with a Masters in Church and Community Leadership. She is also the sister to our member, Teresa Davis. Her presentation will be on Living Life as Prayer. COOKIE DELIVERY #35—Our last batch of delicious homemade cookies for 2011 was delivered to the construction crew on Wednesday along with the following message: God's blessings to all of you in the new year! May the favor of the Lord our God rest upon you and establish the work of your hands (from Psalm 90:17).
RIDE TO CHURCH—There are women in the Waynedale area who would appreciate a ride to church for Bible class and the 10:30 service. If you would be able to provide transportation some Sundays, call Lana Hille at 423-1369.
FOOD BANK—To provide basic needs for those who visit our food bank in January, we request donations of cereal, soup, canned fruits and vegetables, spaghetti and spaghetti sauce, macaroni and cheese and juice. They can be placed in the “Food Bank” box located in the Welcome Center. Cash donations may be placed in your church envelope and marked “food bank” on the “other” line. During construction, members may call Lana Hille at 423-1369 any weekday for assistance.
KINDERGARTEN OPEN HOUSE – It’s the new year, so mark Wednesday, January 25th on your calendar and plan to attend the Emmanuel-St. Michael Kindergarten Open House at 2131 Getz Road at 7:00 p.m. Kids can get to know kindergarten teachers through special classroom activities while parents gather information about the school and enrollment options. Free childcare is available.

EMMANUEL’S MINISTRIES The contributions made to “Emmanuel” support the ongoing mission and ministry efforts of Emmanuel congregation.
To meet our anticipated expenses for 2011, $23,430 per week is needed.
BUILDING FAITH Gifts given to "Building Faith" are applied exclusively to Building Faith campaign.
DISTRICT AND SYNOD The contributions designated for “District and Synod” are sent to the Indiana District of the Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod and are used for local, national and world mission efforts.
CUP OF KINDNESS The money contributed in the “Cup of Kindness” boxes is distributed by Lutheran Social Services to local families who have crisis needs.
STEWARDSHIP MOMENT—First Sunday After Christmas— Galatians 4:4-7 On this first Sunday after Christmas we rejoice that at the right time God sent His Son to be the best Christmas gift that any human being could ever receive.
